Samson gets his film accepted to the Middle of Nowhere Film Festival based on the fact that he tells the festival’s director he has Kevin Costner signed-up to play the lead. Not having any connections to Kevin Costner, Samson enlists the help of his best friend and roommate, Johnny Mayfair, to track down the famous actor. Johnny agrees if Samson will help him with a musical endeavor. Their landlord comes to collect his rent money, forcing the two friends to try and come up with some cash. Johnny tries to hit up Drake Tungston, the proprietor of Dead People’s Stuff Antiques, for the money. Samson tries a different method.

Samson is waiting for Costner to show up at their apartment but instead a fake, Chinese delivery boy comes looking for Johnny. Johnny is being hunted down by a local street ruffian named Liz because he failed to deliver some briefcases for Drake. Meanwhile, Samson and Landlord are going over the movie script. Drake finds out his cousin, Smee, has busted out of jail and is coming after him.

The Film Festival Director contacts Samson because he hasn’t received any of Samson’s materials for the Middle of Nowhere Film Festival. Samson, Johnny and Landlord go in search of a camera. Wong is confronted by an old classmate and is “saved” by Liz. Landlord poses as member of the Russian Mafia to try and intimidate the Nebraska Mafia, but, because he is a trained theatre actor, decides to disguise his identity by using a British accent. Johnny books a gig for his non-existant band and the result is rather surprising.

Landlord has infiltrated the Nebraska Mafia after Drake befriends him. Johnny discovers his impromptu rap has made his band an internet sensation. Smee is still on the run from the law, but growing tired of running. After searching for some actors and trying to find a crew, Samson ends up using everyone he knows to begin filming his movie, “Plato and Gertie Escape the Spanish Rodeo Farm.” Johnny finds out that Kevin Costner might be coming to town.

Johnny attempts to come up with his next hit song. Samson is trying to track down Costner, but isn’t having much luck. Landlord is insisting that Johnny write him some theme music. Drake and Smee are trying to meet face-to-face. After Johnny and Wong visit a trailer park, Samson’s luck turns around.

Samson tries to continue shooting the movie but his cast seems to be disappearing on him. Landlord is returning to “The Motherland” and locks Samson and Johnny out of their apartment. Johnny is trying to find his guitar and catches Drake abandoning the antiques store. Wong gets into a carp fishing tournament with an old friend. Liz helps Samson break into a house so filming can continue.

The Narrator has a tough time remembering where he is in the story and is forced to start over.

Samson is depressed but gets some inspiring advice from the Hippie. Johnny discovers that traveling across the country with Liz is harder than he thought it would be. Wong has a vision from the gods. Drake’s car breaks down and he hitchhike’s his way to Chicago. Landlord has some travel problems. The Middle of Nowhere Film Festival finally arrives.

Wong meets a girl and gets a date with her. Johnny is struggling to write his next hit song and tries to get inspired. After achieving his dream, Samson doesn’t know what to do with himself. Drake and Smee accidentally run into each other. While on his date, Wong bumps into a local improv legend. Samson tries to go rollerblading.

Samson and Johnny have a lengthy discussion about religion. Wong catches his would-be girlfriend on a date with Moses O’Toole and tries to win back her heart. Drake returns to Dead People’s Stuff Antiques and discovers his other cousin, Clifford, has made some interesting changes. Samson forgets he has to make a video for reputable website. Drake is forced to do something drastic before the feds find him. Samson gets an unexpected phone call.
